Documentary Short
Laughing Through Lockdown
Story
With New York City’s bars, restaurants, and clubs shut down by Covid lockdown mandates, how did the comedians survive?
With conventional means of performing and making a living suddenly impossible. New York City’s comedy scene was forced to either evolve or die. While dozens of comedy clubs throughout the city permanently went out of business, some comedians created unconventional ways to perform, reach their audiences, and make a living. In times like this, comedy was more than just entertainment, it was a way of survival.
